JMiles & Co. participates at the 4th Annual Law Conference at the Strathmore Law School

From 23rd-24th November 2017, the Strathmore Law School held its 4th Annual Law Conference under the theme: The Tripartite Free Trade Area: Critical Considerations for Legal Frameworks, Human Rights and Business. On 23rd November, Leah Njoroge-Kibe, an associate at JMiles & Co. was a panellist at a session dubbed: Assessing the Dispute Settlement provisions under the Tripartite Free Trade Area organised by the Strathmore Dispute Resolution Centre. The panellists’ discussed the dispute settlement processes outlined in the TFTA agreement while comparing them to the WTO dispute settlement mechanism. In attendance was the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Amb. Dr. Amina Mohamed, leaders from civil society groups, legal practitioners, judges from the COMESA Court of Justice and EAC Court of Justice, academia and students. Drawing insights and expertise in the topic from various panellists, the conference tackled topics that included; Intellectual Property, Trade and Regional Integration: Implications for the TFTA and Regional Growth and Development; Realising Regional Integration on Natural Resources in the Context of the Tripartite Free Trade Agreement; and Applying Judicial Mechanisms in Ensuring Justice in sync with Economic Integration in the TFTA.
