Rubin Mukkam-Owuor co-organised and attended the Young ICCA Skills Workshop held at the Holiday Inn in Accra, Ghana on 14 November 2017.
The theme of the workshop was “An Introduction to International Arbitration”. Speakers included industry experts and prominent lecturers such as Ace Ankomah, Thadeus Sory, Emmanuel Amofa, Diana Dapaah, Kizitoe Beyou, Michael Gyan Owusu and Dipen Sabharwal, and younger practitioners such as Isaac Boateng, Augustine Kidisil and Joseph Konadu, giving the audience a broad range of perspectives from their cumulative years of experience. A practical exercise in drafting an arbitration clause was also conducted. The event ended with a rousing call to arbitration practitioners to be well-prepared and confident enough to contribute to international arbitration, despite being engaged as “local” counsel.
The workshop, which reached maximum capacity in a matter of days, engendered an active dialogue between the panel speakers and the audience, and highlighted the keen interest of young practitioners in Ghana in the field of arbitration.
