Elizabeth Karanja and Nikhil Desai of JMiles & Co. were speakers at the 4th East Africa International Arbitration Conference (EAIAC) held at the Serena Hotel in Kampala, Uganda on 8th and 9th September 2016. JMiles & Co. co-sponsored the event, and Elizabeth was a member of the organising committee.
The conference focused on dispute resolution of large infrastructure and energy and natural resources (ENR) projects in East Africa. Elizabeth spoke about domestic regimes on investment in infrastructure and ENR projects. Nikhil discussed the role of international arbitration in fostering development, and the protections offered by Bilateral Investment Treaties (BITs). The EAIAC is a great platform for arbitration practitioners to network, share ideas and promote the development of international arbitration in the region.
The next EAIAC conference will be held in Kigali, Rwanda in 2017.
