Nairobi launch of Arbitration in Africa: A review of key jurisdictions

August 2016

On 24th August 2016 JMiles & Co hosted the East African launch of the book; Arbitration in Africa: A review of key jurisdictions at the Villa Rosa Kempinski Hotel in Nairobi.

Arbitration in Africa: A review of key jurisdictions was co-authored by John Miles (Managing Director of JMiles & Co. in Nairobi), Tunde Fagbohunlu (Partner, Head of Litigation, Arbitration and ADR Groups, Aluko & Oyebode in Lagos) and Kamal Shah (Partner and Head of Africa at Stephenson Harwood LLP, London). It was written in conjunction with leading African arbitrators and lawyers, and it reviews the state of arbitration laws in 30 key African jurisdictions. The book was published in February 2016, and recipients of the book already include Government ministries, industry professionals and academics in various jurisdictions in and outside of Africa.

The book launch was attended by a number of key lawyers and arbitration practitioners in Kenya. Mr. Lawrence Ngugi (C.E.O of the Nairobi Centre for International Arbitration (NCIA)) delivered a speech on behalf of Professor Githu Muigai, Kenya’s Attorney General. Mr. James Muruthi Kihara (Chairman, CIArb Kenya) and Mr. Arthur Igeria (Chairman of Board of Directors for NCIA) were also guest speakers.

After successful launches in Lagos and Nairobi, Stephenson Harwood shall host launches in Paris on 27th September 2016 and in London on 23rd November 2016.
